Weekly wrap 12-8-13

Well this week it (The worlds end) crunched down the list like an innocent violet crumble bar under the foot of an overweight parking attendant.
In Australia the horror flick (The Conjuring) an impressive $7.5 million which helps it along to a worldwide take of nearly $170 million. That is a whopping $150 million profit!
Still not enough for it to make it into the Biggest % profit movies (ie. movies that made heaps and cost nothing to make) list. Number 20 on the list is 2004's Saw (you might have heard of it). That little horror flick was made for just $1.2 million and raked in $103 million. That's a percentage return of 4,195.68%. So The Conjuring has a ways to go yet. Still impressive though.

Weekly Box Office Wrap - All Avengers

"The Avengers" smashed out another $13.3 million, (after taking $6.0 million on its opening day), to finish its first week in the Aussie Box Office with a massive $19.30 million.

To put that number in perspective, "The Hunger Games" , currently sits at a total take of $29.80 million after being in general release for 6 weeks. "The Avengers" is only $10 million away after just 1 week. And with the biggest release of this week being the re-release of "Beauty and the Beast", you can expect that number to climb much further still.

The dominance of that motley crew of superheroes had a marked effect on the rest of the box office, with most films barely pulling in $600,000 in ticket sales. This also left most movies exactly where they were on the charts, except for one......

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" was everyone else's alternative this week to "The Avengers"  pulling in whopping $1.2 million for the week and jumping from 7th to 3rd! Again, to put that number into perspective, "The Hunger Games" took $682,000 for the week. And it has been out for the same length of time.
